PROFILE
Dr Bhavani Ranganathan hails
from a well-known family in Tamil Nadu. She did
her schooling from Calcutta, Delhi and Bombay.
She has very special and nostalgic memories of
her years in Calcutta. Though she completed her
schooling from Bombay's S.I.E.S. High School,
it was during her time at Modern High School,
Calcutta, that she began to develop a keen interest
in various activities like reading, music, art,
dancing, social service and dramatics. She gives
credit to her Principal, Mrs. Violet Clarke, her
teachers and her family, in nurturing her interest
in the English language.
She graduated with Chemistry
as the main subject and Physics as the ancillary
subject from Ethiraj College, Chennai. She then
completed her post-graduate degree in Sociology
followed by another in English from Bombay University.
She discovered her talent in teaching when she
scored excellently in Practice Teaching in her
B Ed examination. She has been working with Kendriya
Vidyalaya for the past twenty-three years, first
at Dhrangadhra, Gujarat, and currently at Kendriya
Vidyalaya Hebbal, Bangalore. While teaching, she
pursued her higher studies in American Literature
and worked on her Doctoral thesis 'Ambivalence
towards Women in Nineteenth century American novels,
specially of Cooper, Hawthorne and Melville'.
She has enjoyed her work and
has always been fascinated by the children she
teaches. She has used her creativity to bring
out ways and means of helping students to learn
better, whether it is Science or English. Her
training in computers has further helped her in
using this powerful medium as a means of imparting
knowledge. She has been able to put her ideas
into a number of presentations that she has prepared
for use in teaching. She has also prepared worksheets
for English language learning and has successfully
tried out various methods of teaching Spoken English
particularly to students who do not posses adequate
language repertoire.
Dr Ranganathan has gone a long
way in understanding the needs of young learners.
She is sure that her association with young minds
can only become stronger and her determination
to do her best would be strengthened with time.
