PROFILE
Mrs Patricia Ann Beddoe, is a very senior teacher
at St Columbus School, New Delhi, who, even at
the age of 72 years, continues in this noble profession.
Having
completed her BA and MA in English from St Edmund's
College, Shillong, and Agra University respectively,
and her BEd from Annamalai University, Ms Beddoe
started her teaching career in 1978. She has taught
in the eminent schools like Presentation Convent,
Srinagar; Loreto Convent and St Edmund's, Shillong;
and the Convent of Jesus and Mary, New Delhi.
She has also served as the Principal of First
Stop School, Noida, which is a part of the Brooklyn
Group of Schools. At St Columbus, where she has
been teaching since 2000, she is in charge of
religious education as well as General Studies
for Classes IV to XII.
Throughout her teaching career,
Mrs Beddoe has exemplified versatility in the
fields of theatre and dance. She has composed,
directed, choreographed and designed costumes
for plays, skits, musicals and dance-dramas that
she has organised in many schools. Some of these
are Zurika for Mater Dei Convent, Christmas Rock
and Woman for All Seasons at the Convent of Jesus
and Mary, The Life of Mary Ward and Factory Children
at Loreto Convent, Lucknow.
Mrs Beddoe has made commendable
contributions in social work in the form of rehabilitation
of orphans, street children and the socially ostracised.
She is the President of Shishu Niketan, an NGO
in Agra which shelters around a 1000 street children
including young girls rescued from child prostitution.
So much industry and dedication
has not gone unrewarded. She has won some of the
most prestigious awards and recognitions including
the President's gold medal for general nursing.
Mrs Beddoe has also written many
books on the English Language and Value Education.
With her profound experience she has trained teachers
for about 20 years in eminent schools of the capital.
