The teacher of the month for March, 2003 was unanimously selected. The winner is
Yogesh Singla,
Sanatan Dharam Vidya Mandir, Panipat.

PROFILE

Yogesh Singla is an innovative teacher with a persistent determination. He is an ardent propagator of interactive teaching and works with classes 10 and 12 at Sanatan Dharam Vidya Mandir, Panipat.

In his opinion, a person cannot be ‘taught’. Giving us an example of an idol being carved from an already existent piece of rock, he illustrates how a teacher acts as a facilitator to the child by helping the child - giving him shape and refining what’s present within him. This is precisely why Yogesh prefers to be called a ‘facilitator’ rather than a ‘teacher’.

Yogesh is a science graduate. He did his masters in English Literature and acquired his B.Ed. from the Kurukshetra University. He has been teaching English for two and half years now. He is known for his ability to make his subject lively and captivating. He maintains a healthy communion of naturalistic and pragmatic approaches.

He believes that students need to be trained in listening and reading before expecting good verbal or written communication from them. He not only emphasizes on oratorical skills but also the ability to communicate logically and fluently.

Yogesh is the teacher in charge of the ELT Lab where he seeks to fine tune language abilities of students in various ways through drama, debate, discussions(Panel/Group),quiz etc. From time to time he volunteers to share his knowledge with his fellow teachers by organising orientation classes to fine-tune their language speaking abilities. Encouragement of intellectual and academic exchanges is what he plans his future assignment to be.

His ability to evoke latent talents and channel energies of his students is appreciated by one and all and considered to be his forte. He is the Editor- in- Chief of the yearly school magazine and newsletter. He is also a member of 'Women Cell', Kurukshetra University that is avidly working for alleviating the status of women.

According to him, teaching is an art that needs refinement at every step. As he says, he's always ready 'to learn anywhere, anytime, from anyone'.
