PROFILE
Teaching is a continuous learning
process. So believes Gopa Mukherji who has been
in the profession for more than 15 years now and
is currently teaching at Balwant Rai Mehta Vidya
Bhawan, Masjid Moth, New Delhi.
A postgraduate in History from
the University of Calcutta, Ms Mukherjee did her
honours in Education apart from doing her BEd
from the same University. She completed her schooling
from Delhi and Guwahati.
Ms Mukherji started her teaching
career from DAV Public School, Kailash Hill, Delhi,
in 1991 before moving to Balwant Rai Mehta Vidya
Bhawan School in 1992. Here, the School authorities
recommended her to the National Open School where
she started to teach part-time. In 2001, she was
recommended by the School again to train other
teachers through the prestigious Intel 'Teach
to the Future' programme as master trainer.
Not one to rest on her laurels,
Ms Mukherji is currently pursuing a 'Wipro Innovative
Teaching' programme. She holds a postgraduate
diploma in Systems Analysis from NIIT.
Having thus enriched her teaching-learning
experience, Ms Mukherji is an inspiration for
her many students. She is herself inspired by
Swami Vivekananda's immortal words -"education
is the manifestation of the perfection already
in man"- and feels that a teacher is really
not somebody who teaches, but one who can facilitate
nurturing that which "lies latent within
the students".
Perhaps her ennobling beliefs are a manifestation
of her interest in the fine arts including modern
and light classical vocal music which she pursues
as a hobby.
