PROFILE
Ms Rashmi Choudhary teaches English at Carmel
Convent, New Delhi. She has spent 18 of her 25
teaching years in the school.
Ms
Choudhary did her schooling from the Convent of
Jesus and Mary, Pune and graduated with honours
in English from PunjabUniversity, Jalandhar, in
1973. She completed her post-graduation from the
same university in 1981.
She began her teaching career
from Our Lady of Fatimah, Patiala and later Yadavindra
Public School in the same city. Her husband's
posting took her to Jabalpur where she taught
at St Joseph's Convent for four years before moving
to Delhi.
Her
passion for teaching has led her to experiment
with the latest teaching methodologies. She regularly
attends workshops, organised by the British Council
and leading publishing houses. In her classes,
she encourages her students to relate stories
in English written by them or which they might
have read in books or magazines. These stories
are then discussed and debated in order that the
students may test and develop their English language
skills.
"Teaching
has been a humbling experience for me," she
says. "I feel it's a tremendous responsibility
entrusted on me."
Today,
teaching is not restricted to focusing merely
on one's subject of specialisation. Teacher-student
relationship has gone through tremendous transformation
and change. Having recognised this change Ms Choudhary
says she tries "to remain as accessible to
my students as possible".
Ms
Choudhary loves to read, travel and swim. She regularly
contributes articles to newspapers.
