PROFILE
Ms Saklendra Sikka, the Head of the Department
of English, Mount Carmel School, has spent 25
years of her life in this profession. After completing
her BA in English Honours from Indraprastha College,
Delhi University, she went ahead to complete her
Masters in the same from Delhi University. She
did her BEd from Jabalpur University. She has
also bagged the Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching
of English from the Central Institute of English
and Foreign Languages, Hyderabad. She entered
the teaching profession in 1981 and since then
has been teaching English and Mathematics to high
school and middle school students in top tier
schools of Delhi, Kolkata and Jabalpur. Some of
the eminent schools in which Ms Saklendra has
taught are Joseph's Convent, Jabalpur, Kendriya
Vidyalaya, Cossipore, Kolkata and Mount Carmel
School, New Delhi where she has been working since,
1995.
To
Ms Saklendra it is imperative that her classroom
experience (both teaching and learning) is fun
and exciting. That is why she teaches through
games in classrooms. She has been organising "Spelling
Bee" contests for the last two years and
a scrabble competition this year to help children
enhance their spelling and vocabulary. She also
plans to organise a literature quiz this year.
Apart from this she has been the editor of the
school magazine for the last three years and has,
with her editorial board, introduced new features
in the magazine which are commendable. Ms Saklendra
was recognised as "Best Teacher" in
2004.
Ms Saklendra has received training
in Indian Classical Music (vocal) from Padmashree
Pandit Vinay Chandra Modgalya and Shri Vasant
Thakar at Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, New Delhi.
She has also been a keen sportswoman in her school
and college days and represented Delhi State and
Delhi University as a basketball player in many
intervarsity and national basketball tournaments.
Leisure finds Ms Saklendra in creative and refreshing
pursuits of music and sports.
