The teacher of the month for April, 2001 was unanimously selected. The winner is
C. Subbulakshmi, Akshaya Vidyalaya Matriculation and Higher Secondary School, Dindigul, Tamil Nadu.


PROFILE

C. Subbulakshmi did her schooling from St. Joseph’s Convent, Dindigul. She passed out from the convent and did her graduation and post graduation in English from M.V.M. College. She has also completed her Bachelor of Education from Gandhigram University.

ACHIEVEMENTS

She has been a teacher in Akshaya Vidyalaya Matriculation and Higher Secondary School since 1996. She has sent five sets of students to the Board Examination and her students attained an immaculate result. She has been the Editor of the Vidyalaya Magazine.

C. Subbulakshmi believes that an English teacher must have proficiency in language, knowledge of linguistics, the ability to use different teaching techniques and familiarity with a language laboratory.

She has been following certain techniques and strategies in her classroom like classroom conversation, conversation analysis, conversation maxims, games, dramatization, roleplay and simulated radio broadcasts for teaching the basic skills in the language. She has actively participated in numerous teacher-training workshops and has fruitfully applied innovative techniques for ELT.
